THE VILLA OF COMPOSERS

He won the First Prize at the Cleveland International Piano Competition, USA (1987).
He also met with success in several further competitions, such as the Busoni International Piano Competition (1985 and 1994) and Tokyo (1989).
Huillet started playing the piano in Toulouse, with Simone Sabatier, pupil of Wilhem Kempff.
He was then spotted by Pierre Sancan, with whom he spent four intense and invaluable musical years at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, where he also moved on to a third advanced cycle with Germaine Mounier .
He attended master classes with Paul Badura-Skoda and Leon Fleischer, which enriched his musical journey.

Thierry Huillet has been invited to play as a soloist with Symphonic Orchestras around the world: the Cleveland Orchestra, RAI Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony, Romanian Radio’s Orchestra, to name a few. He has also performed with his native country’s orchestras: Orchestre Philharmonique de Lille, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse, Orchestre des Pays de Loire.

At 24, he took a break from the concert circuit, living in the Pyrenees for a few years.

Without being aware of it at the time, he was looking for his second and richest musical path: musical creation. From there on, writing music became a necessity.

In 1994, in Moscow, he met his wife-to-be, Clara Cernat, Romanian violinist and violist.
With Clara Cernat, he returned to the concert hall and studio, and recorded several CDs, performing works of George Enescu, Joaquin Turina, Ernest Bloch, Franz Liszt, Camille Saint-Saëns, Ernest Chausson and others.

The duo’s perfomances have taken them around the world : Hanoï Opera House, Lisbon’s Palacio Foz, the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Teatro Coliseo in Buenos Aires, Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Cecilia Meireles Concert Hall
in Rio de Janeiro, Salle Gaveau and Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris... They have given many recitals in Japan, China, the USA, Vietnam, Brazil, Libya, Romania, Croatia, Slovenia, Belgium, Spain, France. They have also performed in international festivals,
such as the French Institute’s “Festival Croisements” in China and the Enescu Festival.

The essence of Thierry Huillet’s life is his composition, which occupies an ever-expanding place in his world.

Many institutions have commissioned works to Huillet : Radio-France, numerous Festivals : Comminges, Notes d’Automne, Musique et Nature, Eclats de Voix, Orchestre Les Passions, Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse, Kotaro Fukuma, les Orgues d’Urrugne,
La Cité de l’Espace de Toulouse, Musica Activa Barcelona, Romanian Cultural Institute...

His CDs and DVDs were warmly welcomed by the press (ffff Télérama, Le choix de France Musique, Recommandé par Classica, Diapason, etc.).
Thierry Huillet often gives master classes in various countries. He is frequently a jury member at international piano competitions.
